Prestwick International Airport started life as an airfield for light aircraft way back in the 1930's. The idea was the brainchild of Scotland's best-known pioneering aviator; David McIntyre, who purchased 348 acres of meadowland outside the village of Monkton in 1935. In the intervening years Prestwick airport has gone from strength to strength and the last decade has seen unprecedented growth. In 2004 Prestwick airport broke all previous records by announcing its 2 millionth passenger in 12 months.

PRESTWICK AIRPORT MAPPrestwick airport is located in 32 miles form Glasgow city center and handles much of Scotland's no-frills air traffic. It's the only airport in Scotland to boast its own rail station (which terminates less than 100 meters from the check-in desks). Anyone travelling by road should use the A77/ M77 and then follow the signposts to the appropriate car park.
If you're collecting a passenger, or dropping someone off, you can leave your vehicle in either of the short stay car parks for up to ten minutes without charge. Access to the Terminal Road is no longer permitted for security reasons. If you want to stay longer Prestwick airport has two short stay car parks conveniently sited in front of terminal buildings. Advanced booking isn't necessary; simply drive up and take a ticket from the entrance barrier. On your return you must settle up at the payment machines scattered throughout the car park before returning to your vehicle. If you intend to stay for more than 12 hours then it's cheaper to use the mid stay car park.
Car parks 3 and 4 are dedicated for mid stay parking and have a minimum stay of one day. They are situated on the far side of the dual carriageway from the airport buildings, but are within walking distance. Advanced booking is recommended if you want to ensure the most competitive rates, otherwise you can just drive up and pay the premium.
Car park 5 (less formally known as Watson's Ayr Park) is Prestwick's long stay parking solution and represents the best value for money. The car park has 400 spaces which must be pre-booked. The minimum charge is for a four day stay, but the tariff works out to be more economical than three days in either of the other car parks. On arrival you present your keys to a member of staff and they park your car for you. Because Watson's Ayr Park is some distance from the airport you have to catch a shuttle bus to reach the terminal. Courtesy buses run round-the-clock (on demand) and take five minutes to make the trip. If you find that there isn't a transfer bus waiting on your return call: 01292 471111.
All of Prestwick's car parks are extremely security conscious, although they do no accept legal responsibility if anything adverse happens to your vehicle.
